Spain is famous for its sunny, fun-filled beach holidays and few might know that winter sports are also practiced here. The ski resort of Baqueira-Beret located in the heart of the Pyrenees, in the Aran Valley and Àneu Valley Lleida provides all the facilities for fun-filled Spanish ski holiday. We spent five days here in February 2016 and truly enjoyed it. One can reach by car from Barcelona or Toulouse, France. The area is rural and extremely charming. Spanish and French are spoken here, as well as some English …
The Pantanal is the world’s largest wetland area that spreads across Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. We visited the Pantanal area of Brazil in August 2016. Sao Paolo to Cuiaba by flight and Cuiaba to Porto Joffre by safari 4×4 vehicle. In Pouso Alegre lodge we woke up to the singing and squeaking of at least ten varieties of birds. Here we also saw a giant anteater, tapir at night and lots of birds, mammals and reptiles. This post is composed of mainly photographs as they tell the story better than words…. Enjoy!
Cuba is a fascinating country. We had truly unique experiences while visiting in April 2016 (the US president Obama was visiting Cuba at the same time).
The nature is unspoiled, the people are humble and friendly, the food is simple and tasty, and many things, including Internet and communications are way behind the world standards. The latter takes you back 25 – 30 years ago and you start feeling somewhat nostalgic for the almost forgotten past.
Aarhus – Horsens – Billund – Fanø – Odense – Roskilde – Helsingør – Copenhagen
This time we had one week for our mini road trip across Denmark. We hired a car from Aarhus airport and drove down to Horsens (to see some old friends) and to spend some days exploring the area. It was pouring rain all day and the weather was expected to be similar the whole week (this later proved partially true allowing us actually to enjoy the trip :)). We’ve been to Aarhus before and exploring it was not part of this trip. However, things worth doing/seeing here include a visit to Old Town of Aarhus, Moesgaard Museum, Viking festivals and celebrations throughout the year.
Oslo – Tromsø – Longyearbyen – Pyramiden – Oslo
We visited Svalbard (formerly known by its Dutch name Spitsbergen) for a week and it was as magical as ever. Being the northernmost human settlement in the world with a permanent civilian population it offered us the comforts of the modern world and the wilderness at the same time.
Travel in Russia – experiences and reflections
(Mid-February – good time to experience minus temperatures and snow)
This time the journey takes us to Moscow and Sochi – two cities quite different in what they can offer to tourists…
Who doesn’t know something about Moscow already?
Moscow’s changing and growing at the same time… Numerous building projects can be seen while driving from Sheremetievo airport, through suburbs of Moscow to its central district. The streets are snow and ice-free, despite the recent snowfall and traffic seemed normal. The temperature was – 5 ⁰C, which in the following three days reached – 11⁰C … brrrr
We arrived at Petrovka Street, which is one of the oldest in Moscow and derives its name from the Vysoko-Petrovsky monastery located here. Some of the other famous buildings on that street are:
– The Bolshoi Theatre – the main theatre in Russia;
– The TsUM building – high-end shopping mall in Neo-Gothic style;
– The Gulag History Museum and The Russian Federation Prosecutor’s General Office share a building that is The Vorontsovs – Rayevskys Manor one of the few building that survived the fire of 1812.
